Ms. Slomowitz's Practice
Ms. Slomowitz concentrates her practice on appellate briefing and legal research, legal writing for the firm's business and individual clients. Her practice spans all of the firm's substantive practice areas, from transactional services to pre-litigation, litigation and post-litigation services.
Ms. Slomowitz has researched and applied federal and virtually all states' statutes, administrative regulations and judicial decisions to contracts, acquisitions, dealership issues, employment matters, cooperative disputes and corporate activities.
Ms. Slomowitz is routinely called upon by the firm's other attorneys to obtain, review and analyze statutes, regulations and case law, and to evaluate the enforceability of contracts, the legal requirements for a business transaction or the legal implications of a client's factual situation. Based on the results of her research, Ms. Slomowitz, in consultation with other firm attorneys, determines the most efficient way to obtain the best favorable legal results for her clients.
Ms. Slomowitz uses her legal research and writing skills in all of the firm's major civil litigation matters. She drafts and files dispositive legal motions and briefs, whether to obtain dismissals of cases improvidently brought against firm clients, or to obtain favorable judgments in cases brought by the firm's clients. Ms. Slomowitz, for example, was instrumental in obtaining a multi-million dollar jury verdict for a client in a federal lawsuit involving business theft and customer misappropriation.
Ms. Slomowitz has successfully participated in the prosecution of civil lawsuits involving family law, business opportunity theft, contractual interference, and distributor claims. She has also successfully defended businesses, employees and individuals in, among others, unfair competition, trade secret, employment discrimination, contract, minimum markup and private school litigation.
Ms. Slomowitz also researches, prepares the record and prepares legal briefs to appellate courts, including the Wisconsin Supreme Court and Courts of Appeal, in the firm's specialized appellate practice. She has successfully obtained the reversal of several judgments adverse to firm clients and the affirmance of judgments favorable to other clients.
Ms. Slomowitz successfully participated in obtaining a Wisconsin Supreme Court decision that the trial court, in evaluating a motion for modification of child placement, need not grant each parent equal placement if the court determines that placement should be modified. Instead, the trial court is to maximize the amount of time a child spends with both parents within an overall placement schedule, taking into consideration the child's best interests, the statutory status quo presumption, and the relevant statutory factors.
In addition to her regular practice, Ms. Slomowitz has been a regular contributor to various legal publications. She currently writes a regular column for The Wisconsin Law Journal titled "Briefs for the Brief Writer." Her articles, which cover a wide range of legal subjects, include the following:

- New Supreme Court petition for review rules set to take effect
Ms. Slomowitz has also been a judge at various student moot court competitions at the University of Wisconsin Law School and Marquette University.
